Sources close to Handbridge.com have told us that a buyer has been found for the former Bank of Scotland site in Handbridge. We believe that the buyer is a major hotel group but we have no formal confirmation of this.
Following our previous stories about the site we have received many comments, from local residents, expressing their concerns about the present management of the site and possible future plans.
Residents have reported recent activity, including surveyors working, on site which suggests that a planning application may be imminent.
As widely reported in the local and national media, the Bank recently announced the closure of its call centre in Premier House on its Hoole Lane site as part of a national programme of job cuts. More than 530 jobs will be lost in Chester. The plans for Chester Renaissance include the redevelopment of the Hoole Lane site which raises questions about the Bank's long term committment to Chester having cut its workforce in the City by more than half in the last 10 years.
Of course any additional information, which you can provide, will be most appreciated and will be dealt with in the strictest discretion and in confidence.
As regular readers will know, the Handbridge site was offered for sale, through CB Richard Ellis in Manchester, described as a "Prime Development Opportunity - Site suitable for Residential/Hotel Development (subject to planning)". The closing date for offers was 9 April 2010.
Handbridge.com obtained a copy of the sale brochure which is available for download on our site (pdf 4.3MB).
